The Illawarra Hawks have dropped a serious #NBL20 bombshell with the signing of highly sought after free agent, Josh Boone. Boone joins the Hawks on a 1-year deal.
No stranger to success in the NBL, Boones’ time with Melbourne United saw him make the grand finals in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons. With a championship under his belt (2017/18), Boone was also awarded the All NBL First Team Honours in 2018.
His experience provides a great balance to the current line up at the Hawks. Boone won an NCAA Championship at college before being selected by the New Jersey Nets with the 23rd overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. He spent 4 years in the NBA before playing in a variety of leagues around the world.
Boone is excited about his move to the Illawarra stating, “I loved the two and a half years I spent in Melbourne and playing for Melbourne United. Winning a championship there goes down as one of the highlights of my career. But now I’m very much looking forward to relocating to Wollongong and joining the Illawarra Hawks family.”
Matt Flinn is equally as happy with his most recent signing. “I’m super excited to have Josh on-board! He has established himself as one of our league’s elite rebounders and mobile defenders. He’s a proven winner and his voice and experience will be invaluable to our playing group.”
\\\\\\\This latest signing marks the ninth player announced by the Illawarra Hawks for the 2019/20 season. Boomer’s sharp-shooter Todd Blanchfield, Hawks veteran’s Tim Coenraad and AJ Ogilvy, Boomer’s young guns Daniel Grida and Emmett Naar and local young gun Angus Glover, as well as rising stars Sunday Dech and Sam Froling are all part of the line-up.
